Past Series: Nutritional Issues for Older Adult Patients with Diabetes

About

Proper nutrition is a key component in the effective treatment of diabetes, but older adults can face unique complications in maintaining a healthy diet. This learning collaborative addressed aging changes that affect nutritional needs, oral health, and the management of diabetes and other chronic conditions.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain special dietary requirements for those with chronic conditions, such as oral and craniofacial disorders or on certain medications
  • Develop nutrition counseling approaches targeted for older adults with diabetes, oral health issues, and/or taste disorders
  • Identify promising practices for diabetes education and lifestyle recommendations that address the role of diet, especially specific dietary needs related to other co-morbid conditions, and its benefits on glycemic control
