Dr. Maria Dolce, an Associate Professor at Stony Brook University’s School of Nursing, is a champion for the integration of oral health and inter-professional health education. She is a demonstrated leader, serving as the Co-Director on Interprofessional Education and as a Chairperson of Interprofessional Research Education and Practice Initiatives. She contributes her expertise as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for the National Children’s Oral Health Foundation and as a Steering Committee Member for Smiles for Life, which is responsible for developing comprehensive oral health curriculum for primary care clinicians. Her extensive experience as a nurse educator enables her to contribute to meaningful advances in the implementation of oral health education across a variety of health professions. Stony Brook University’s Nurse Practitioner-Dentist (NPD) Model for Primary Care, an HRSA-funded, innovative, replicable, and sustainable inter-professional collaborative practice (IPCP) model that integrates basic primary care services provided by a nurse practitioner into a primary dental care practice. The NPD Model focuses on improving health for older adults with chronic health conditions.
