Addressing Barriers to Diabetes Prevention for Older Residents of Public Housing

Summary: Older adults living in communities with limited access to healthy foods or safe places to exercise can be at an increased risk for developing diabetes. This two-part webinar series will review behavioral interventions that incorporate age-specific considerations for public housing residents to delay or prevent type 2 diabetes. 

After participating in this webinar, participants will be able to: 

  • Describe environmental and personal factors that influence the ability of older adults to engage in healthy lifestyle behaviors 
  • Identify strategies for effective case management that address social determinants of health that impact diabetes prevalence  
  • Collaborate with community programs and advocacy organizations to promote available resources for nutritional assistance 

Intended audience: Health center providers and staff who care for older public housing residents
